Garfield National Historic Site preserves the property associated with the 20th President of the United States. The home, named Lawnfield, was the site of the first successful front porch campaign in 1880. Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve was established to preserve signifcant examples of the rich natural and cultural resources of Louisiana's Mississippi Delta region. Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Jefferson National Expansion Memorial consists of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse. Jewel Cave National Monument Jewel Cave is recognized as the third longest cave in the world. Tours provide opportunities for viewing this pristine cave system and its wide variety of speleothems. The cave is an important hibernaculum for several species of bats. Jimmy Carter National Historic Site The site includes President Carter’s residence, boyhood farm, school, and the railroad depot, which served as his campaign headquarters during the 1976 election. John D Rockefeller Jr Memorial Parkway The parkway provides a natural link between the Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton and contains features characteristic of both areas. John Day Fossil Beds National Monument Within the heavily eroded volcanic deposits of the scenic John Day River basin is a well-preserved fossil record of plants and animals. John Ericsson National Memorial John F Kennedy National Historic Site John F. Kennedy National Historic Site preserves the birthplace in 1917 and boyhood home of the 35th President of the United States, and represents the social and political beginnings of one of the world's most prominent families. John Muir National Historic Site The Site preserves the 14 room mansion where the naturalist John Muir lived from 1890 to his death in 1914. Muir accomplished many things: he battled to prevent Yosemite National Park's Hetch Hetchy Valley from being dammed, served as the first president and one of the founders of the Sierra Club and played a prominent role in the creation of several national parks. Muir's work laid the foundations for the creation of the National Park Service in 1916. Johnstown Flood National Memorial The Johnstown Flood has everything to interest the modern mind: a wealthy resort, an intense storm, an unfortunate failure of a dam, the destruction of a working class city, and an inspiring relief effort. Over 2,209 people died on the day the dam went, and thousands more were injured, in one of the worst disasters in our Nation's history. Joshua Tree National Park Two deserts, two large ecosystems whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation, come together at Joshua Tree National Park. The Colorado Desert encompasses the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of creosote bush, ocotillo, and cholla cactus. The higher, moister, and slightly cooler Mojave Desert is the special habitat of the Joshua tree. Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail The national trail commemorates the route followed by a Spanish commander, Juan Bautista de Anza, in 1775-76 when he led a contingent of 30 soldiers and their families to found a presidio and mission near the San Francisco Bay.
