Paddle Trails: Maps and Descriptions
Amistad National Recreation Area is a fantastic place to canoe or kayak. This link will take you to an overview of seven recommended paddle trips, each having a detailed map that can be printed, and a short description of each trip.

Parida Cave
Day trip: This is a fun and exciting trip that starts at the Pecos boat ramp and ends at Parida Cave on the Rio Grande. Parida Cave is a rock shelter that contains "pictographs" or paintings on rock walls that were left by Native Americans who lived in this are over 4,000 years ago. From Del Rio drive West on Hwy 90, past the town of Comstock, and then turn left at the NPS sign that says Amistad National Recreation Area, Pecos River. Follow the road all the way down to the boat launch. Deploy your kayaks or canoes then park up on the top parking lot. Paddle (left) down river on the Pecos until you meet the Rio Grande. Paddle (left) downriver on the Rio Grande. You will see several smaller rockshelters on your left, but Parida is the huge one that faces a large canyon (Parida Canyon) on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande. Parida Cave has a marked trail and interpretive signs running through it. Find a place to tie your canoe/kayak and enjoy the trail and the incredible view from the site!
