Bandelier National Monument by National Parks Service
There are three different ways to camp in Bandelier. Juniper Campground is our family
campground and is intended for small groups of 10 individuals or less. Ponderosa Campground
is a group campground for groups larger than 10 individuals. Backcountry camping is also
available with a permit that can be obtained for free at the visitor center. The closest
backcountry camping zone is approximately 2 miles from the visitor center..

Details
Free permits are required for overnight trips; obtain them in person at the Visitor
Center during regular hours. Campfires are never permitted in the Bandelier wilderness, but
fuel-type stoves are OK. No pets, weapons, or fireworks permitted. Be prepared to hang food
at night and to purify water.

Cochiti Area Campground

Description: Cochiti Dam is the 11th largest earth-filled dam in the world. Cochiti Lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on whose land the project is located. Cochiti has many opportunities for both wildlife viewing and recreation. Four osprey nesting platforms have recently been erected around the lake to provide nesting sites, as well as viewing opportunities. A favorite water activity at Cochiti Lake is wind surfing. This is a no-wake lake.

Tetilla Peak Campground

Picnic Area: Jemez Falls Campground

Description: Located fifteen miles northeast of Jemez Springs, New Mexico. This group area is equipped with a pavilion and is accessible for persons with disabilities. Restrooms are provided. The site will accommodate up to 100 people. No OHVs are allowed. No electricity or showers. Minimum Fee is $50.00 (50 people). $1.00 Per Head will be charged if group exceeds 50 people. This is a "Day Use Only" site.

Paliza Campground

Description: Located five miles northeast of Ponderosa, New Mexico. Restrooms and water are provided. Check-in with campground host upon arrival. There are no OHVs allowed. No showers or electric hook-ups. Some first come, first serve sites may be available. All roads are dirt (native soil).

Black Canyon Campground

Description: Located seven miles northeast of the town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Campground is situated in a mixed conifer pine and fir forest. There is a good mix of sun and shade.Restrooms are provided. The rainy season is July/August. Temperatures often coolconsiderably in the evenings. The highway to the campground is paved. Campground is adjacent to a New Mexico State Park where .There is a pay phone in the campground. Pecos Wilderness Trailhead is 8 miles away,as well as, several other hiking trails. There are no showers or electricity. Some first come, first serve sites may be available.

Riana Campground

Description: 0n northern New Mexico, Abiquiu Lake's Riana Campground offers a panoramic view of the Cerro Pedernal (Flint Mountain). Abiquiu Lake is located on the Rio Chama, a tributary of the legendary Rio Grande. Riana Campground is 6,400 feet above sea level. The scenery of the area includes Pinion (Pine), Juniper and Sage among colorful rock formations. Surrounding attractions include: Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keefe Museum, San Pedro Wilderness, Cumbres Toltec Railroad, Chaco Canyon, Bandelier Nat'l Mon., Taos and Santa Fe, NM. The Riana Campground hosts 54 campsites. A number of sites include electric hookups and water hookup, shelters, grills, lantern holders and tent pads. Other facilities include a play structure, showers, pay phones, dump station, picnic and fishing areas. *Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.*

Description: Las Huertas Picnic Ground is located in the Sandia Mountains just 16 miles from Albuquerque. Las Huertas is adjacent to the only year round stream in the Sandia Mountains. A picnic shelter shades picnic tables and protects them from summer showers. The sound of water running from the creek can be heard throughout the picnic ground.
