Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area

Description:

Hot springs, river rafting, birdwatching, and miles of trails make this National Conservation Area popular among those in the know. Bonita Creek wildlife viewing area is accessible and has numerous interpretive displays and shade shelters.

Directions:

WEST SIDE:From Safford, travel 5 miles east on State Highway 70 to Solomon-- turn left on the Sanchez road and follow that to the end of the pavement. Follow signs to Bonita Creek. EAST SIDE-- From Safford take US 70 east 10 miles to AZ 191. Follow 191 north 29 miles to milepost 160. Turn left on Black Hills Back Country Byway and follow signs four miles.

November's Featured Park
The North Cascades have long been known as the North American Alps. Characterized by rugged beauty, this steep mountain range is filled with jagged peaks, deep valleys, cascading waterfalls and glaciers. North Cascades National Park Service Complex contains the heart of this mountainous region in three park units which are all managed as one and include North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation Areas.
November's Animal
Badgers are animals of open country. Their oval burrows (ten inches across and four to six inches high) are familiar features of grasslands on sandy or loamy soils of the eastern plains or shrub country in mountain parks or western valleys.
