
Nordheimer Group Sites are located in a Douglas fir and hardwood forest close to the Wild and Scenic California Salmon River. Roads and parking areas are gravel. Sites A, B, and C have large grassy meadows, surrounded by forest. Site D overlooks the Salmon River with easy walking access for boaters and swimmers. Restrooms are portable in sites A, B, & C. Site D has its own accessible vault type restroom. Combination fire ring grills and picnic tables are provided at each site. Popular activities include swimming/sunbathing, rafting, kayaking, hiking, wildlife viewing and biking.

The Salmon River Road is narrow, amd one-lane in many places. Larger RV's and trailers not recommended. No vehicles are allowed behind the rock parking barriers in the group sites. Campfires are allowed only in the combination fire ring/grills provided. Drinking water may be available in the main campground April 15 through July 4. Call ranger district for availability. Group Site users are advised to bring drinking water. Please call the call center at 1-877-444-6777 to book your reservation if availabilty does not show on this website. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. There are no electricity/water/sewer site hook-ups at this campground. Reservations are taken from January 2 through October 1. Narrow, sometimes one lane road. Larger RV's and trailers not recommended.
Nordheimer Group Sites (CA) PO BOX 410 Orleans CA 95556 From Highway 96, 7 miles north of Orleans, California, take Salmon River Road (Forest Highway 93) 13 miles to Nordheimer Campground. If coming from the north, Salmon River Road is approximately 1/2 mile south of the town of Somes Bar.
