
Campground is 5 miles west of Ward, Colorado, within the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. It is adjacent to Brainard Lake and the Indian Peak Wilderness Area, at an elevation of 10,350 feet, in a spruce and fir forest. Summer features warm days and cool pleasant nights. Afternoon rain is common. Nederland, 14 miles south, has full services including phone, groceries, restaurants, gas, hardware store, bank and post office. Popular activities include bicycling (outside the wilderness), fishing, backpacking and hiking. There are numerous wilderness trails. Limited rockclimbing and snowskiing opportunities are possible when the weather cooperates. Two trailheads lead into the backcountry and over the Continental Divide. Firewood is for sale in the campground.

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. 2 night min. stay on weekends, 3 night on holidays. Maximum 2 vehicles per site. No universally accessible facilities. There is no electricity/water/sewer site hook-ups at this campground. Sites may be available on a first come - first served basis outside the reservatio period. This campground has first-come, first-serve sites. Water spigots are at central locations throughout the campground. Due to bug spraying and hazard tree removable this campground will be periodically closed until late June. Campground might be open on some days on a first/come, first/served basis. Please call the campground before planning to come to the area.
Pawnee (CO) ARAPAHO AND ROOSEVELT CO From Denver, north on I-25 to US 36 west to Boulder. Take Colorado Highway 119 (Canyon Blvd) for 22 miles to Nederland, and north on Colorado Highway 72 to Ward. Turn left at sign. Five miles to Brainard Lake Recreation Area.
