
KET1: A visit to the Kettle Moraine State Forest reveals the natural beauty of the region. More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit making this facility a popular area for a wide variety of users. Visitors to the forest can camp in one of three family campgrounds, a horse riders camp or one of two group camps, hike, mountain bike, ride a horse, snowmobile or ski on the 160+ miles of trail, swim at one of two beaches, backpack to an overnight shelter on the Ice Age Trail, picnic, fish, hunt, or tour three historic cabin sites. There are also facilities for use by those with disabilities including a cabin in the campground and an accessible nature trail. Visit the Southern Unit, experience the beauty and take advantage of the diversity of facilities it has to offer.

Firewood is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park or Forest properties from out of state or from more than fifty miles away from the property you are going to. Also, firewood that has been in the Wisconsin EAB quarantined area http://www.emeraldashborer.wi.gov/pdf/WIEABQuarantine.pdf is not allowed on properties outside of the quarantined area. Please buy firewood nearby or at the property you are going to. Call the DNR toll-free Firewood Hotline 1-877-303-WOOD (9663) for information before packing up for a trip. Pine Woods Sites 1-36 are both "no-pet" and a 24-hour quiet zone. No person may operate a radio, boom-box, musical instrument, or similar noise producing device unless noise is contained to the person though use of a headset. Whitewater sites 750-779 are a "No-pet" area. Backpack Sites 1 - 3 open to reservation year round. Ottawa Lake 1st come / 1st served basis 12/01 - 03/31 every year. All other sites are closed to camping when not on reservations. Kettle Moraine Sf Southern Unit S91 W39091 HWY 59 Eagle WI 53119 The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is located 61 miles east of Madison, and 37 miles southwest of Milwaukee. The forest is 30 miles in length, extending from the village of Dousman to near the city of Whitewater. Forest Headquarters is located 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on Hwy 59. Ottawa Lake Campground is part of the Ottawa Lake Recreation Area. Ottawa Lake Rec. Area is 4 miles north of Eagle. Travel Hwy 67 north from the village of Eagle, or south from I-94. Then turn west on Hwy ZZ to the campground entrance. Pinewoods Campground is located north of Eagle. Travel Hwy 67 north from Eagle, or south from I-94. Turn east on County ZZ to Waterville Road then north on Waterville Road to the campground entrance. Campsites check-in/registration for Pinewoods is at Ottawa Lake Campground. Whitewater Lake east and west campgrounds, and Hickory Woods, are part of the Whitewater Lake Recreation Area. Whitewater Lake is located southeast of the city of Whitewater, off of Hwy 12. From Hwy 12, turn south on CTH H to Kettle Moraine Drive. Turn west to Whitewater Lake Ranger Station. Horseriders Campground is located west of Eagle. Travel Hwy 59 into the town of Palmyra. Turn south on 3rd Street to the campground entrance. Do not use a computerized mapping program to obtain directions.
