Trout Pond Campground Description

Trout Pond, named for the only natural lake in West Virginia, is a unique area of lakes and streams, and mountains and sinkholes, all surrounded by the beautiful hills of West Virginia. The recreation area offers camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, hiking, fishing and more. Trout Pond has 50 campsites each complete with a fire ring and picnic table. Hot-water showers and restrooms are an easy walk from each site. Fourteen sites have electrical hook-ups, and a dump station is in the area. The day-use area includes a white-sand swim beach, boat launch, bathhouse, playground, and 30 picnic sites. All visitors 6 years old and older pay a day-use fee. All campers parking in Day Use Area must pay Day Use Parking fees. There are 2 group picnic areas available. Each accommodates as many as 100 people. Site A has a shelter, Site B is uncovered. Group picnic area reservations must be made in advance through the reservation system.

Trout Pond Campground Alerts

*Reservations must be made at least 5 day in advance. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 night minimum stay on holidays. A West Virginia fishing license, a trout stamp and a National Forest stamp are required. A fishing license is not required for residents or non-residents 15 years of age or younger. Gasoline powered boats are not allowed on the pond or lake. Electric motors and sailboats are welcome. A life jacket is required for each person in a boat. Please check in with the campground manager upon arrival. No ATVs or ORVs allowed. Pets are permitted at Trout Pond as long as they are on a leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted on the beach.

Trout Pond Recreation Area (WV) 814 Trout Pond Campground RD Lost City WV 26810-8382 From Strasburg, VA, follow State Route 55 west for 18 miles to Wardensville, WV. Turn left on SR 23/10, and travel for about 6 miles. Turn right on SR 259/5,and travel for 6 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 500, and travel about 1 mile to the Trout Pond Recreation Area entrance.
