Required for both tent and vehicle camping. Available from the Harkers Island Visitor Center, the Lighthouse Keepers Quarters or from any park ranger.

Parking

Permits are required for certain organized group activities and special events, and for leaving vehicles in long-term parking lots on the island.

Long-term vehicle parking on islands

Permit applications for the season can be submitted on or after Monday, February 14. North and South Core Banks will open to vehicles 1n March.

$15.00 per week or part thereof

Details

This permit is required to be prominently displayed on any vehicle or trailer that will be parked unattended for more than 24 hours. All unattended vehicles must be in one of the park's three long-term parking lots which are located in the Long Point, Great Island, and Lighthouse areas. Vehicles which will be left unattended for less than 24 hours do not require permits and may be left on the open beach provided they are not obstructing traffic and are outside of areas closed to vehicles.

Permits are issued Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Harkers Island Visitor Center. Permits will not be issued on holidays.
