Operating Hours Seasons

Cowpens National Battlefield is open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., year round. Auto loop road and picnic area close at 4:30 p.m. The park is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Days.

Getting There

Plane

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, Greer, SC Douglas International Airport, Charlotte, NC Rental cars are available at both airports.

Car

From I-85 northbound, take exit 78. Turn left, toward Chesnee on Hwy 221. At the intersection fo Hwys. 221 and 11 in Chesnee, turn right. The park is about 3 miles on the right. From I-85 southbound, take exit 92 at Gaffney, west toward Chesnee on Hwy 11. The park is about 10 miles on the left. From I-26 eastbound, take exit 5, east toward Chesnee on Hwy 11. The park is about 20 miles on the right. From I-26 westbound, take I-85 North, and follow the directions above.

Getting Around

Interpretive walking trail is one and one quarter mile self-guiding loop around and through the battlefield. Horses, bicycles, and other wheeled vehicles are not allowed on the walking trail. The 3.8 mile auto loop road travels the perimeter of the battlefield and includes wayside exhibits, picnic area, overlooks with short trails onto the battlefield, and the circa 1832 Robert Scruggs House. The loop road is a favorite local exercise walking route. Auto loop road closes to vehicle traffic at 4:30 p.m.
