Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area - Scenic Vistas

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area by National Parks Service

Some of the finest views and vistas within the park are provided those hale and hearty souls that brave the Appalachian Trail along the ridge of the Kittatinny Mountains on the park's New Jersey side. In the late summer and early fall with the leaves turning colors and large birds of prey migrating south through the valley, a marvelous view-scape of nature awaits those who wish to climb these rocky trails.

Those visitors not so inclined to climb can drive to see their vistas, but usually must wait until the winter and spring to observe the beaty of nature's landscapes. In these months, the leaves are off the trees and there are more frequent views of the river from the park's main tour roads, Route 209 in Pennsylvania and Old Mine Road in New Jersey. The air during these periods is typically crystal clear.
