Temperate climate. Fire Island may have slightly cooler (in summer) or warmer (in winter) temperatures than the mainland of Long Island. Layered clothing is recommended. Watch for rapid changes in weather conditions and take precautions when boating, fishing and swimming and lighting occurs.
