Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument - Environmental Factors

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, at 8,400 feet of elevation, is located in the Montane life zone. The overall climate is cool temperate. The Monument is located in a gentle mountain valley in the shadow of Pike"s Peak, in the southern Rocky Mountains.

There are a variety of enviromental factors that affect the natural and cultural features of the Monument. Weather, fire, non-native plant invasions, and erosion are some of the most prevalent.
