Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument - Wildflowers




Scarlet gilia (Ipomopsis aggregata) is common within the Monument. J. Dillon "Florissant" is a French word meaning "flowering", it is therefore no surprise that Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is a premier location for wildflower viewing. The Monument boasts over 2000 acres of mountain meadow filled with wildflowers and montane grasses.

Purple flowers: One-sided penstemon, Mountain harebell, Rocky Mountain Iris, Blue-eyed grass, Prairie gentian

White flowers: Common yarrow, Common mouse-ear

Yellow flowers: Colorado rubber plant, Common mullein, Western wallflower, Senecio

Red and orange flowers: Indian paintbrush, Scarlet gilia, Firecracker penstemon

Pink flowers: Wild geranium, Nodding onion
