Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site - For Kids

A "hands-on" exhibit of animal furs allows children of all ages to feel what various animal pelts are really like. Buffalo, bear, badger, fox, wolf, and even skunk are on display. Our bookstore offers a selection of books for younger readers as well as a few period craft items.

Junior Ranger Program

Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site, in keeping with the historical significance of the park, provides children an educational activity called Junior Trader. This program allows children ages 6 to 12 to explore the fort and learn about trading traditions and activities that took place at the Fort Union trading post 150 years ago. Completion of the program entitles a child to receive a Junior Trader badge. Please ask about the Junior Trader program at the Visitor Center desk in the Bourgeois House.
