Getting There

Public Transportation
Airlines, bus, train and major highways service the local area. Additionally, the Charleston Area Rapid Transit Authority serves all the park sites.

Getting Around

Fort Sumter is located 3.3 miles via water from downtown Charleston, and must be reached by boat. You may access the Fort Sumter dock with your private boat or ride the park concession operated ferry system. Fort Sumter Tours, Inc. is the current authorized concession operator. If using a private boat, please do not block the concession ferry access to the Fort Sumter dock.

Two concession ferry departure sites are currently available for you to catch the ferry to Fort Sumter. The primary site is located at the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center in Charleston. The secondary departure site is located at Patriot’s Point in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
