Closures Fort Union National Monument is closed New Years, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Special Programs June 11, Historic Weapons Exhibit and First Fort: The park will feature a special Historic Weapons Exhibit and the site of the First Fort Union will be open to the public. Reservations may be requried. July 16-17, Cultural Encounters on the Santa Fe Trail: Enjoy talks and demonstrations on the different cultures that met and traveled the Santa Fe Trail. Exhibits The visitor center exhibits tell of the construction of the three forts, the frontier army at Fort Union, the New Mexico volunteers, the Civil War in New Mexico, and the Santa Fe Trail. Available Facilities Picnic tables, handicap accessible facilities and walkways are available. A sales area located inside the visitor center is operated by the Western National Parks Association, and carries a wide selection of New Mexico history, western women"s history, and frontier military history books. Titles and price lists are available on request. |
