Not too heavy, nor too light, the Arc'teryx Men's Beta AR Jacket is your all-around solution for backcountry protection. Although it's cut a little shorter than some other models in the mountaineering-oriented Arc'teryx Ascent series, a drop back hem offers adequate coverage during active use. For the ultimate combination of strength, breathability, and waterproof protection, Arc'teryx chose GORE-TEX 3-layer Pro fabrics for the Beta AR, using an extra-durable version in the shoulders and elbows, places that are likely to receive extra wear and tear. The permanently attached drop hood is helmet compatible and fully adjustable, and a laminated hem drawcord seals out bone-chilling spindrift. The Arc'tryx Beta AR Jacket for men also features WaterTight, laminated front, pit, and hand pocket zips, a technology that eliminates the need for bulky zipper flaps. This, along with micro seam allowances and the use of narrow seam tape noticeably reduces garment weight and improves suppleness.
Great jacket
This jacket is incredibly light, but because it is full gore-tex it is totally bombproof. It is shorter than most of the Arc'teryx jackets, which I think makes it more versatile. Only drawbacks are that it does not have a stow able hood or an inside chest pocket, but these are minor issues. One caveat, Arc'teryx sizing is generous: I wear a medium in Spyder and most other brands, but needed a small in the Beta AR. Try it on for size at a local store before you order from Altrec.
It rules
This jacket rules and it makes me feel special. As a citizen of the Roaring Fork Valley I ski alot. I am also just generally in the mountains much of the time. This jacket will keep you dry and also make you feel good both inside and out. I need good gear and Arc teryx makes it. If you see me on the hill you can bet it won't be in a Starter Jacket.
True Love
I LOVE THIS JACKET. Be careful though, layers need to be worn to keep warm during winter days. But it is so unbelievably versatile. I use it hiking and to get around Boston in the worst of winters. I might even try it out snowboarding this season!
