Great sleeping bag!
This sleeping bag is great! Very warm and cozy, yet very light and packable. I have not tested this bag under 30 degree, but I believe the rating to be accurate since I have slept perfectly fine on nights 32 degree F nights. I am 5'8 and fit perfectly in the regular. I am always amazed at its compressed size every time I pack it! so small and you don't even have to force too much (remember those sleeping bags that took 30 minutes and 3 people to stuff back into the small compression sack? not this one!) A must-buy especially at the price Altrec is selling it, no wonder it went out of stock.
NOT a 30 degree bag
There is no way this bag deserves a 30 degree rating. I just returned from using it on a 9 day trip. I was able to adjust my clothing to stay warm at night, but this is not a 30 degree bag. I've backpacked for many years under a variety of conditions with different sleeping bags, tents, bivys, etc. This bag should have a 40 degree rating and would then be a very good value. It's light, compact, strong, zips easily, draws up tight, and comes with a good compression sack. I'm 6', 160 lbs and the regular fit as I expected; a bit snug, but okay. If you want a 40 degree bag, go for it. But don't believe its temperature rating.
Great compactability, but not warm enough for me
I'm 5-10, 150 lbs, and a regular was uncomfortably tight on me. I reordered a long, which was a little loose, but comfortable. But when testing in the backyard at only 57 degrees, I came in at 2:00am because I was cold. Granted, I was lightly layered(on purpose due to the relatively warm fore[ca-st]ed low temp), but was very unsatisfied with the performance versus rated temperature. I also returned that bag, and ordered instead a Marmot Trestles, which is great.
