While Kelty designed their Red Cloud 5600 pack for recreational outdoor enthusiasts who don't want to buy a high-end expedition pack for their summer trips, this backpack doesn't cut corners on features. If you're looking at getting into backpacking but you're put off by the high start-up costs, the Red Cloud 5,600 is an excellent investment with a highly adjustable suspension that you won't grow out of in five years or even a decade. This hydration-compatible pack features a lower sleeping bag compartment, ice axe loops and even a fleece-lined pocket for your sunglasses or other optics. Kelty packs fit most torsos well (the packs are gender specific--this one is for guys) and feature triple-ply foam along the waistbelt and double-ply foam throughout the shoulder straps. Zippered side pockets, expandable mesh water bottle pockets and an internal stash compartment accommodate a wide assortment of gear, so you can adapt to changing seasons and all sorts of reasons for snowshoeing, adventure trekking and approach hiking without spending more on an additional pack.
