A professional's ideal GORE-TEX pant, the Marmot Exum Guide Pant for Men is built for the most demanding conditions with a weight-conscious design demanded by serious alpinists.
Superb pant
Wore these pants for a week of Scottish winter mountaineering, in all sorts of conditions, from hard blowing snow and rain to sun, never let me down or let a drop of water in. Breathed well to boot (even on some strenuous and scrambling climbs). I took them on/off several times, including over crampons, with absolutely no snags - tough and durable. Not a scratch either after several sitting glissades. Additionally, unlike Andy, mine fit perfectly. I'm 5'6", 140lbs, typically a small, purchased a small, and could still get a mid-weight base layer and fleece layer on underneath. On our coldest day I had on a mid-weight, fleece, AND softshell (Marmot Scree) beneath these, and they fit just fine (granted, with less on they're a tad roomy, but throw some gaiters on and no problems). Couldn't be happier with the purchase!
Good material and construction but very odd fit
The material and construction are good. The performance is also good as they shed wind and water, but still breath. The fit is odd. The medium barely fits but I swam in the large. Marmot says they are sized to fit over fleece or softsheels, but I don't think so. They also ride a bit low at the waist. I hope Marmot will check out their sizing.
