Great (Awesome) Trail Runners!
Merrell's Cruise Controls have helped solve my over-pronation, motion control/stability issues due to a weak ankle from a bad fall. I also have flat feet. I feel no pain on hikes/runs of 5-10-15-20-30 miles on rugged SW rocky desert trails. The Vibram soles are an insurance policy and I like the accomodations made for gaiters and the adjustable top eyelets slots for heel control. The speed laces could be a little more user-friendly, but it's not enough of an issue to take the Cruise Controls down a notch/star. Get these shoes if you're a real trail runner/hiker! I tried many designs and brands before I finally came across this combo that actually delivers. (The 1-star reviews I've seen for the Cruise Controls are obviously submitted by people who bought these shoes for the wrong reasons.)
Bulbously Toe & Hard as Rock Sole
Weird fit for a Merrell shoe....not at all like my other 8 pairs of Merrell. They went for a Salomon lace combined with a Nike Air cushion which looks good but functions not. Lacing system very hard to cinch up & has hot spots. Toe area is bulbously large. Outsole has very small footprint and feels unstable. Vibram sole is hard as oak and not comfortable on the street; might be OK on soft soil. A real departure for Merrell and not their best.
