This season K2 added a little more girth through the waist to enhance the ski's floatation in powder and broken crud. This added space also tweaked the sidecut, adding an extra meter to the turn radius for those who like to do super-G turns in deep snow. Unlike some powder skis that sometimes opt for cost-saving unisex designs, the Phat Luv Ski has a female-specific soft flex and forward binding position for easier turning. It features K2's proven torsion box construction, the most widely used design on all K2 skis. Inside the Phat Luv is a triaxially braided glass configuration around the lively spruce and fir wood core, giving the ski exceptional rebound and response. While K2's torsion box design has been around for a number of years, it remains one of the best (and critically-acclaimed) ski construction techniques because of performance and versatility. If you're wondering about the mix of fir and spruce in the core, that's the key element in K2's female-specific BioFlex design. K2 created a stable and forgiving profile by using spruce at the tip and tail and fir beneath the binding area. Using spruce at the ends helps with turn initiation and enhances the lightweight characteristics that are essential in keeping a female-specific ski more responsive than a heavier unisex ski design.
