Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Ski by Line Skis

Line declares Eric Pollard's Sir Francis Bacon Ski 'the purest extension of his personality.' We won't debate whether that suggestion came directly from Eric or Line's marketing department, but we'll admit that we're impressed with the exceptional versatility and floatation in this remarkable all-mountain twin-tip ski. It features an early taper design on the twin-tips, a feature that's distinctly unique to Line skis. The early taper profile features contact points that start earlier in from the tips than conventional twin-tips, and then rise out at a long slight angle. If we translate that last sentence from ski-designer speak, it means that the Sir Francis Bacon ski tends to rise above powder better than most backcountry twin-tip skis, but it also lacks that reverse camber that sometimes trips up wider, powder-style skis on hardpack and groomed terrain. The result is that the Line Sir Francis Bacon gives you the wide-waist float you need for untracked snow, with plenty of speed and agility for broken crud and freshly-groomed runs. In a way, it's not unlike the snowboard similarities found in previous incarnations of the shorter-length Elizabeth, another versatile backcountry ski created by Eric. Line applied their Fatty base and edge design to toughen up the overall profile without dragging down the swing weight. While this season's market is crammed with plenty of new twin-tip designs claiming all-mountain rights, Eric Pollard's innovative Sir Francis Bacon stands apart with distinct, snowboard-style grip for hardpack turns and exceptional float for the untracked. After all, these skis are less about personalities and more about creating your unique freestyle expression in the backcountry.
