Patagonia applied the same earth-friendly manufacturing processes used on their recycled fleece outerwear to their shoes, adding at least 15% recycled materials in the compression molded EVA midsole and 20% recycled rubber in the outsole. Patagonia also used natural hemp laces in the Patrol. Hemp is environmentally smart because it has a short growing cycle, requires little water or pesticides, and resists molds and bacteria in a variety of conditions. You'll also find hemp as a substrate in the soles for texture.
