Details
Lower Scorpion Campground provides primitive camping opportunities along the West Fork
of the Gila River. The Scorpion Campgrounds are U.S. Forest Service campgrounds located
approximately one half mile south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument just off NM
State Highway 15. Drinking water is available at the campgrounds. Tables and grills are
provided. Vault toilets are available on site. Camping is free of charge and is based upon a
first come first served basis..

Details
The Grapevine Campground provides primitive camping opportunities along the West Fork of
the Gila River. The Grapevine Campground is a Forest Service campground located
approximately six miles south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument just off NM
State Hwy 15 and just south of the Gila River Bridge. The only water available is from the
West Fork and must be either filtered, boiled, or chemically treated. No tables or grills
provided. Two pit toilets are available on site. Camping is free of charge and is based upon
a first come first served basis.

The Upper Scorpion Campground provides primitive camping
opportunities along the West Fork of the Gila River. The Scorpion Campgrounds are U.S.

Luna Lake Campground

Located near a 75-acre lake, surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest, and near a large wetland for nesting waterfowl. There are interpretive programs planned for July and August. Caldwell Cabin Campground

Description: Caldwell started as a one room cabin constructed around the 1920's from hand hewn logs. The original chinking still remains. Around 1940 expansion of the bathroom, great room with the fireplace and a small bedroom was added. It provides individuals to step back in time to a more rustic and historical era. Pets are allowed in the cabin but are not allowed to be on the furniture. This is in the Mexican Grey Wolf recovery area so keep close watch or restrain your pet. Please clean up after all your pets. Practice tread lightly and stay on designated roads complying with regulations applicable to your vehicle. The cabin has running water from approximately May to October. Inside the cabin there are solar lights, a propane stove, kitchen sink and a propane refrigerator. There is a Murphy bed in the kitchen, (original cabin) kitchen table with four chairs and a bench, a queen size sofa sleeper in the great room, a game table with four chairs, fire place, and a propane wall heater. Bathroom consists of a commode, and small sink. Small bedroom holds one bunkbed and a full size closet. Kitchen supplies include pots, pans, utensils, dishes, stove, coffeepot and can opener. On the porch there are two Adirondack chairs with views of the open meadow. There are two family size picnic tables and a fire ring in front of the cabin. Lawn chairs are nice for the summer time. Cell phone coverage in this area is limited. Caldwell Cabin is located approximately 30 mils southwest of Alpine, Arizona and is accessible of FRD 26 or FRD 276. Caldwell cabin sits at 8,000 ft in elevation. Supplies you need to bring: Sheets, blankets (or sleeping bags) for one double sleeper sofa and one single bunkbed (two beds) pillows, flashlights, towels, garbage bags, warm clothes, dish washing liquid, dish towels. Bring an ax for splitting firewood, matches and newspaper for the fireplace. Pack out all foods and trash when checking out of cabin. Cabin has no electricity or phone and all appliances and lighting are run on solar or propane.
