Details

Great Smoky Mountains National Park requires a permit for all backcountry camping in the park. Backcountry permits are free and are available at the following locations:

1. Oconaluftee Visitor Center

2. Sugarlands Visitor Center

3. Twentymile Ranger Station

4. Fontana Marina

5. Deep Creek Campground Office

6. Smokemont Campground Office

7. Cataloochee Valley near campground

8. Big Creek Ranger Station

9. Cosby Campground Office

10. Greenbrier Ranger Station

11. Elkmont Campground Office

12. Tremont Environmental Center

13. Cades Cove Campground Office

14. Abrams Creek Ranger Station

Registration areas at the ranger stations and campgrounds are accessible 24 hours a day. Visitor center registration stations are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits must be picked up in the park at one of the locations listed above. They are not available on the Internet or through email.
