Hopewell Culture National Historical Park - Amphibians

Many potential sites for frogs (5), toads (2), and salamanders (5) exist, as the park units are located near water bodies, which, coincidentally, is habitat essential for these animals. Common species likely to be heard while walking along a park trail are the northern spring peepers, gray treefrogs, and American bullfrogs. If a sudden movement on the ground is observed, chances are it may be red-backed salamanders, American toads, or northern two-lined salamanders. Other species documented through a herpetofauna survey are: Fowler's toad, northern leopard frog, green frog, red-spotted newt, northern ravine salamander, and Jefferson salamander.
