Getting There Plane The surrounding communities are serviced by the Gary Regional Airport, South Bend Airport, and Chicago"s Midway and O"Hare Airports.
Car Visitors can access the national lakeshore via Interstate Highway I-94; the Indiana Toll Road, I-80/90; U.S. 20, or Indiana State Hwy 12 and various state roads. The Visitor Center is located 3 miles east of Hwy 49 at the intersection of Hwy 12 and Kemil Road, Beverly Shores, Indiana
Public Transportation The Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad stops at 4 stations throughout the park. The following park facilities are within 2 mile of stations listed. - Visitor Center: Dune Park Station, follow Calumet Bike Trail(on north side of tracks) 2 miles east(right)to Kemil road then right 100 yards, or Beverly Shores Station, follow Calumet Bike trail (north edge of parking lot) 1 1/2 miles west(left)to Kemil road then left 100 yards. - Dunewood Campground: Beverly Shores Station, Walk south on Broadway 1/2 mile - Inland Marsh Trail: Ogden Dunes Station, walk west 1/2 mile along Hwy 12. - Indiana Dunes State Park: Dune Park Station, walk north 1/2 mile on trail to park enterance (beach 2 miles from station) - Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education and Miller Woods: Miller Station, walk 2 miles north (left at Stop light) on Lake Street(beach 3 miles from station) - Lakeview Beach: Beverly Shores Station, walk north along Broadway 1 mile to beach.
Getting Around Visitors can travel park roads in personal vehicles. Bicycles are permitted on the main roads but are prohibited on all hiking trails except: Calumet Bike Trail, Long Lake Trail, Marquette Trail, and the Lake Michigan shore line from Lake Front Drive to Central Avenue Beach. Bicycles are strictly prohibited off-trail or on sand dunes.
