Katmai National Park & Preserve - Trees and Shrubs![]() The boreal forest formation that occupies most of the lower elevations of Katmai have soils that are deeper and richer, summer temperatures are higher, there are no permanent snowfields, and winds have a lower intensity. Habitats are more diversified and include white spruce, birch and/or balsam poplar forests, alder and willow thickets and grasslands dominated by blue joint grass and blue grass. |
