Lava Beds National Monument - GrassesGrasses and small annual flowers grow in areas of varied soil depth. There are over 250 species of plants in the monument. The grass and sedge species are as follows: Giant ryegrass ( Elymus condensatus ), Cheat grass ( Bromus tectorum ), Idaho fescue ( Festuca idahoensis ), Bluebunch wheatgrass ( Agropyron spectatum ), Western needlegrass ( Stipa occidentalis ), Thurber needlegrass ( Stipa thurberiana ), Sanbberg bluegrass ( Poa sandbergii ), Prairie junegrass ( Koeleria cristata ), Bottlebrush squirreltail ( Sitanion Hystrix ), and Ross sedge ( Carex rosii ). |
