Grays Meadows Campground

Mileage:8 mi
Description: Located in the eastern Sierra, six miles west of the town of Independence, California near Onion Valley and the Shepherd Pass Trailhead. Campground is located next to a stream that is stocked weekly. Sites 10, 12, 13, 14, 40, 41, 46, and 51 are close to the creek. Night time security patrols are provided during periods of high bear activity. Early trout fishing season starts first weekend in March. Some sites available on a first come, first serve basis. Firewood for sale in campground.

Situated in a narrow mountain canyon, in a stream bottom with Jeffrey pine and sagebrush. Elevation is 7,600 feet. Roads are paved. Popular activities include bird watching, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. There is wilderness hiking to glacier and lakes in John Muir Wilderness.

Description: Located 10 miles west of Big Pine, California, adjacent to Big Pine Creek. Situated at an elevation of 7600 feet in a stream bottom in a narrow canyon, surrounded with high mountains. Vegetation includes Jeffrey pine, sagebrush, some aspen, and cottonwood trees. Restrooms are provided. Firewood is for sale at the site. Glacier Lodge and Store is just outside the campground. Popular activities include trout fishing, hiking, bird watching, photography and horseback riding. There is wilderness hiking to glacier and lakes in John Muir Wilderness.
