Manzanar National Historic Site is open all year during daylight hours. The Manzanar Interpretive Center, offering extensive exhibits, a twenty minute introductory film, and book store, is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily from April 1 through October 31 and 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily November 1 through March 31 (closed December 25). There is no admission fee. We suggest you allow 1 - 2 hours to see the interpretive center with additional time to explore the site. For more information, please call 760-878-2194 ext. 10.
The nearest large airports are located in Los Angeles, Burbank, and Ontario (CA) and Las Vegas and Reno (NV). All are 225-250 miles from Manzanar.
Manzanar is located just off of U.S. Highway 395, 9 miles north of Lone Pine, California and 6 miles south of Independence, California.
There is a 3.2 mile long self-guided auto tour of the camp with a tour description and map available at the site's interpretive center.
A walking tour of the Manzanar Camp takes one to two hours. A self-guided tour booklet is available at the Manzanar Interpretive Center, at the Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine, and at the Eastern California Museum in Independence.
