Muir Woods National Monument - For Kids

Muir Woods and Golden Gate National Parks serve as two of the nation's largest and most inspiring outdoor classrooms. From fragile native habitats to historic landmarks, ancient redwood groves to dramatic coastal preserves, the parks' value as an urban educational resource is unsurpassed. Strongly committed to young people, park staff work with educators to develop interdisciplinary issue-oriented curriculum designed to help students achieve National Education Standards.

Junior Ranger Program

The Muir Woods Junior Ranger program is an interactive exploration of the old-growth redwood forest habitat. Children ages 6-12 years old receive a workbook and then use their "tools" (their senses) to explore the forest.

After completion of the booklet, Junior Rangers have an option of answering the questions on the last page and mailing or e-mailing their answers to a Muir Woods Ranger. Upon receipt of these answers, the ranger will send out an official Muir Woods Junior Ranger Certificate with the Junior Ranger's name.
