National Capital Parks-East - FishA total of 46 extant species of fish have been reported from National Capital Parks-East (NACE). These include game fish such as Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass, White Perch, Yellow Perch, Black Crappie, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish as well as anadromous species such as Alewife and Blueback Herring and American and Gizzard Shad. Eight additional species known only from historic records have not been observed within NACE in the last 80 years. These eight extirpated species are River Chub (Nocomis micropogon), American Brook Lamprey (Lampetra appendix), Logperch (Percina caprodes), Blutnosed Minnow (Pimephales notatus), Cutlips Minnow (Exoglossum maxillingua), Satinfin Shiner (Cyprinella analostana), Common Shiner (Luxilus cornutus), and Redbreast Sunfish (Lepomis auritus). |
