National Capital Parks-East - GrassesNational Capital Parks-East (NACE) has documented 111 species of grasses in its parks. Of these only 60 percent are native to these parks. Of the native grasses, NACE has four species, Giant Cane (Arundinaria gigantea), Lax-flowered Witchgrass (Panicum laxiflorum), Swamp-oats (Sphenopholis pensylvanica) and Nottoway"s Brome (Bromus nottowayanus) that are listed by the State of Maryland as being rare, threatened or endangered in the state. Piscataway Park contains large areas of native Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) meadows. |
