National Capital Parks-East - Natural Features

The natural features of National Capital Parks-East include sand and gravel beaches along the Potomac River and Piscataway Creek, shoreline bluffs at Fort Washington and Fort Foote, flood plain and upland forest, shell marl ravine forest with its associated fossil outcrops, vernal pools, two large river systems and numerous streams, a variety of soil types, forested seeps, and numerous other wetlands such as swamps, emergent marshes, and bogs.
