National Parks of New York Harbor

Many people are surprised when they discover that there are 10 National Parks with 23 unique destinations in and around New York City and northern New Jersey. These are places to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach, become involved in the stewardship of an urban ecosystem, or better understand today"s world by making a visit to the past.

The National Parks of New York Harbor include Gateway National Recreation Area, Governors Island and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island. In addition, there are six cultural and historic destinations in Manhattan, including the African Burial Ground, and one in Westchester County. The Lower East Side Tenement Museum, an affiliated site, is also a part of this network.

The National Parks of New York Harbor comprise approximately 27,000 acres and are visited more than 12 million times each year. Year-round, there are a variety of tours, exhibits, special events, educational programs and recreational opportunities.
