Details

13 sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fee is $10 per night. Sites have fire grates (no wood gathering in the Monument) and picnic tables. Maximum vehicle length is 21 feet. Campground typically fills by early afternoon from early March through late October. Campground is not cleared of snow in the winter. Overflow camping is available outside Natural Bridges.

Nizhoni Campground

Mileage:27 mi
Description: Located approximately 12 miles north of Blanding, UT at the foot of the Abajo Mountains. Campground is situated at an elevation of 7000 feet amid Ponderosa pine and Gambel oak trees. Summer temperatures range from 80-90 degrees during the day and 55-65 degrees at night. Mule deer, wild turkeys, Abert?s squirrels, and the occasional black bear may be seen in the area. There are no hookups, but drinking water and vault toilets are provided. Firewood may be collected in and around the campground. Popular activities include hiking, wildlife viewing, and touring the Abajo Mountains. Other attractions in the area include Canyonlands, Arches, and Mesa Verde National Parks, Dark Canyon Wilderness, Edge of the Cedars State Park, and Lake Powell, as well as numerous archaeological sites.

Devils Canyon Campground

Description: Restrooms are provided. Showers are available in Blanding, eight miles to the south. Elevation is 7,400 feet. Summer temperatures are warm in the day, but cool in the evenings. Firewood is limited. Spurs are paved. Drinking water is available. County fair in August. Evening programs are provided at Edge of the Cedars Museum in Blanding. Wildlife in the area include birds, squirrels, chipmunks, deer and black bear.

Buckboard Campground

Description: Located approximately 7 miles west of Monticello, UT in the Abajo Mountains. Campground is situated at an elevation of 8900 feet amid aspen and Gambel oak trees. Summer temperatures range from 75-85 degrees during the day and 50-60 degrees at night. Mule deer, wild turkeys, and black bears frequent the area. There are no hookups, but drinking water and vault toilets are provided. Firewood may be collected in and around the campground. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, and riding ATV trails. Other attractions in the area include Canyonlands, Arches, and Mesa Verde National Parks, Dark Canyon Wilderness, Edge of the Cedars State Park, and Lake Powell, as well as numerous archaeological sites.

A new visitor center offers information on the history, geology, and biology of the area. The small and remote, but very popular, campground rests in a beautiful red rock desert environment. There are no showers available and the closest town of Moab is 25 miles away.
