Details
Stone Cliff offers very primitive camping on seven sites near the river. One is a handicapped site near the water, suitable for a van, pickup camper, or very small RV. The other six sites are walk-in. Four are in a sandy area with partial shade, and two are in a wooded area. Sites do NOT have picnic tables, lantern hooks, or grills, as the camping area is subject to flooding. Be aware of changing river levels. Drinking water is NOT provided, so bring your own water. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout the Stone Cliff area. No Fees.

Description: Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance and no more than 360 days prior to the arrival date. The Downstream Area 1 Day Use Area is open year round. Battle Run Campground

Description: Battle Run Campground is conveniently located south of Summersville, WV, on the shore of the largest lake in West Virginia. Superb water quality and sheer sandstone cliffs make Summersville Lake a unique place to visit. Boating, water-skiing, swimming, fishing for large- and smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish, and catfish, (trout are stocked below the dam in the spring and fall) scuba diving, picnicking, hunting, and biking are the favorite activities enjoyed by nearly one million visitors annually. Technical rock climbing and whitewater rafting are available year round nearby, with whitewater releases below the dam on the world class Gauley River in September and October. A marina and dive shop are located on the lake with grocery stores, restaurants, and service stations located nearby in Summersville. The campground offers 117 sites, 110 with electric hookups. Description: Big Branch Shelter The Big Branch Day Use Shelter at R.D. Bailey Lake is located close to the headwaters of the lake. The area is open from May 1st to September 30th. Both electric and water are available at the shelter. There is a large charcoal grill and a smaller one at the shelter. The lake is located approximately 70 yards from shelter location. for your convenience, the restrooms, horseshoe pits, and playground are less than 50 yards away. also, Volleyball pit and basketball game court located nearby. Guyandotte Point Day Use Shelter The Guyandotte Point Day Use Shelter at R.D. Bailey Lake is located close to the headwaters of the lake. The area is open from May 1st to September 30th. Both electic and water are available at the shelter. There is large charcoal grill at the shelter. The lake, marina, and summer launch ramp are located approximately 1000 feet from the shelter location. Restrooms are approximately 600 feet away, and the playground system is about 300 feet away. for additional information, call 304-664- 3229. The Visitor Center Day Use Shelter The visitor Center Day Use Shelter at R.D. Bailey Lake Towers 400 feet above the dam and lake giving a spectacular view for all of our visitors. The area is open from May 1st to september 30th. Water is available at the shelter. There is a large charcoal grill at the shelter. The Visitor Center, Overlook, Restrooms, and Playground are located approximately 250 feet away from the shelter location. The head of the Salt River Trail is located 500 feet away. Gerald Freeman Camp Campground

Description: Gerald Freeman Campground is nestled in the headwaters of Sutton Lake in central West Virginia. The 159-site campground has shower houses, launch ramps, playgrounds, and a marina with a snack bar. Sutton Lake and the adjoining Elk River Wildlife Management Area offers visitors over 20,000 acres of forests and fields, and 1,440 acres of water for boating and biking, swimming and skiing, hiking and hunting, fishing and frolicking, resting and relaxing. Wildlife is abundant and fish are plentiful! Local attractions include a riding stable, canoe livery, outlet mall, and a bowling alley. Pets are permitted in the campground, but they must be controlled/ restricted by the owner on a leash no longer than six feet. State law requires children 14 and under to wear a helmet while riding bicycles. For safety, lights must be operated on bicycles from sunset to sunrise.

Sutton Lake Picnic Shelter Campground

Description: Sutton Lake has 5 picnic shelters, two set along the Elk River just below the Dam, and three overlooking the lake. Each has six to eight picnic tables and a large charcoal grill. The Day Use Areas, where the shelters are located, have numerous other attractions, to make your picnic a grand success. Shelters 1 and 2 are in the Downstream Area. They overlook the Elk River and are ADA accessible. Water and electricity are available at each shelter. A new playground, ADA compliant restroom facility, large parking lots, and Fishermans Walkway meet the needs of most picnickers, young and old. Shelter 3 overlooks Sutton Lake in the South Abutment Day Use Area. It is just upstream from the Sutton Dam. Visitors in this area enjoy the lakeside fishing pier, small beach, and launch ramp facilities. Shelters 4 and 5 also overlook Sutton Lake, from the Bee Run Day Use Area. Water and electricity are available at each shelter. This large area includes a large beach, playground, marina facility, ample parking, and restroom facilities.
