Spyder Breakout Down Jacket - Women's

Time to get out of the army-green rut you've been in ever since seeing Platoon. The Spyder Women's Breakout Down Jacket will help you kick your color-codependency this winter. Pull on your snowshoes for a post-holiday stomp, sneak out for a dawn patrol on Thanskgiving morning, or hit that 75-day mark on the hill in this warm down jacket. Despite the name, the Breakout bears a clean profile, not an unsightly bump in sight. The Spylon+ DWR helps water bead on the stretch-nylon face fabric, making it easy to shake off excess moisture before it penetrates through the material. The Xt. L lining provides waterproof and windproof protection for the drops that do sneak through the DWR treatment. This is particularly important since down insulation works magnificently .... unless it gets wet. Down, kept nice and dry, offers an unsurpassed warmth-to-weight ratio by the mechanics of its insulating abilities--the soft feathers and rigid fibers create an intricate grid in which air gets trapped in the open spaces. The trapped air acts as a barrier between cold air on the outside and warm air from your body so you stay warm and the jacket stays feather-light. The waterproof front zip eliminates an entry route for moisture, and underarm zips offer an alternative exit strategy for excess sweat and heat. Welded baffles in a distinctive geometric pattern breaks away from your previous notions of what a down jacket should look like, in addition to preventing down from shifting and settling in preferred locations. The stretch powder skirt snaps back when you're in the pub or can be taken off when you're spending a day in the city.

October's Animal
Most commonly found in the tundra of Rocky Mountain National Park, the pika is a close relative of the rabbits and hares, with two upper incisors on each side of the jaw, one behind the other. Being rock-gray in color, pikas are seldom seen until their shrill, metallic call reveals their presence.
