This map shows the shortest route to South Padre Island. For a longer route with fewer turns, take I-37 north from Corpus Christi, turn onto US 77, and follow that until reaching the intersection with 100.

Shown is the park's northern section, where administrative and visitor facilities are located. This is the only area that contains paved roads. The main highway to the park is the two-lane, asphalt Park Road 22. Park Road 22 begins at the northern edge of the map and ends at milepost 0. There is no pavement south of milepost 0 and motorists must drive on the beach. The first five miles of South Beach are open to two-wheel-drive vehicles, but only 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended (strongly) south of mile marker 5. The road to Bird Island Basin is paved and has two lanes.
