This is the only area that contains paved roads. The main highway to the park is the two-lane, asphalt Park Road 22. Park Road 22 begins at the northern edge of the map and ends at milepost 0. There is no pavement south of milepost 0 and motorists must drive on the beach. The first five miles of South Beach are open to two-wheel-drive vehicles, but only 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended (strongly) south of mile marker 5.
