Pipestone National Monument - Ferns![]() The Sioux Quartzite prairie is a unique environment that allows many diverse species to inhabit the same area. Where the Sioux quartzite ledge drops off, ferns can be observed growing from cracks in this relatively protected area. The lowland bladder fern (Cystopteris) is most commonly seen taking advantage of this shady and moist environment.
