San Antonio Missions National Historical Park

Four Spanish frontier missions, part of a colonization system that stretched across the Spanish Southwest in the 17th, 18th, 19th centuries, are preserved here. They include Missions San Jose, San Juan, Espada, and Concepcion. The park, containing many cultural sites along with some natural areas, was established in 1978. The park covers about 819 acres.

After several years of archeology work, we are one step closer to interpreting a portion of mission life that has been buried for over a hundred years. The ruins have been exposed - dirt and sand now needs to be cleared off of them.

Wear comfortable clothes according to the weather. Don"t forget your hat if the sun is shining. Pack a lunch.
