Reptiles and Amphibians

Many species of reptiles and amphibians are often secretive and shy. Therefore their presence can go undiscovered due to their habits and habitats. Couple this with the fact that they are cold blooded and only active during the warmest half of the year, it can be difficult to find representatives. There is potential for the existence of 12 species of amphibians and 43 species of reptiles on the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. There are several species listed, which are very common and seen regularly in the summer months.
