Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve - Birds

Tallgrass Prairie is home to as many as 150 species of birds throughout the year. Many species such as meadowlarks and prairie chickens can be found year round on the preserve. However, most of the birds seen are transient or migratory residents. The birds listed are some of the most commonly seen or asked about species. A checklist of potential birds seen is included and the use of a field guide will be helpful for further information on these species.
