Sleep under the stars in one of over 200 designated campsites in Voyageurs National Park. Be serenaded by loons, and listen for the chance to hear the howl of a wolf.

You need a boat to camp in the park. All campsites are accessible by water only.

A free permit is required for overnight stays in the park. You can get your permit at a park visitor center during regular business hours or self-register at one of the permit stations located near all park boat launch facilities.

Most campsites in the park are available only on a first-come, first-served basis, with the exception of two designated group campsites which may be reserved (fee applies).

There are drive-up campsites located just outside of the park at the Woodenfrog and Ash River state forest campgrounds. Call 218-365-7229 for more information.

Camping in Voyageurs National Park is limited to 14 days at a specific site between May 15th and September 15th, and a maximum of 30 days in a calendar year.

Echo Lake (minn) Campground

Mileage:29 mi
Description: Located twenty-two miles northeast of Orr, Minnesota. Restrooms, drinking water, and amphitheater are provided. Roads are not closed in the winter, although snow is not removed. Tow and towed vehicle equals one. After October 1st, (until the first week in May) Park removes garbage service, shuts off the water and provides only limited toilet cleaning service. Park is open, however, and there is NO fee to camp during this time.

Jeanette Lake Campground

Description: Jeanette Lake Campground is located adjacent to Jeanette Lake. Restrooms are provided. Approximate season dates are May 1 through October 15. Popular activities include bird watching, fishing, and hiking. Only two vehicles allowed per campsite, therefore there are no "extra vehicle" charges.

Pfeiffer Lake Campground

Description: Located adjacent to Pfeiffer Lake, Pfeiffer Lake Campground offers 16 camp sites with some sites that can accommodate RVs up to 45-feet long. The campground provides fire rings, tables, drinking water, vault toilets and a centrally located playground offers children a great place to run off the days energy. Recreational activities in the area include fishing, a fishing deck, boat launch, a picnic area located adjacent to the sandy beach, and self-guided interpretive trail. The fishery for Pfeiffer Lake includes panfish, bass, and perch and walleye is stocked as well. A campground host will be on site to help you and answer any questions you may have during your stay.

Fenske Lake Campground

Description: Fenske Lake Campground is located in the Kawishiwi Ranger District of the Superior National Forest approximately 10 miles outside of Ely in northern Minnesota and near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying fishing and other recreational activities.The campground features 14 shaded campsites (each with a picnic table, fire grate, and tent pad ), and a solar-electric pump is available for drinking water. An open log shelter is near the picnic area for use during inclement weather. A group campsite a distance away from the family campsites, may be reserved. Some family campsites may be reserved, while others are for drop-in campers only. Fenske Lake Campground is near access points to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Fenske Lake is part of a Superior National Forest canoe circle route. Firewood is available for purchase, and with at least one day's notice, canoes can be rented for $20.00 per day. Fenske Lake Campground is a National Forest Campground operated by the Ely Area Campground Concessionaires. The operating season starts May 5 and concludes September 30. Fall Lake Campground

Description: Campground is located on the shores of Fall Lake. Campground manager is on site. There is direct access to the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness. Average summer temperatures are 60-75 degrees in the daytime. Campground opens before walleye fishing opener in early May and closes after October 5. Campground was completely renovated in 2003-05 adding shower/flush toilets, electric sites, two group sites, 5 pull through sites, playground and hiking trail loop with wildlife viewing platform overlooking marsh. Other facilities provided include boat ramp, canoe rentals, picnic tables, fire rings, tent pad, drinking water, swimming beach and picnic area. Office has limited camping supplies, snacks, firewood and ice. Popular activities include fishing, boating, canoeing, birding, swimming, hiking, biking and sight-seeing. Office has display of replications of artifacts found in archaeological digs in campground and area. Popular local events are City of Ely's 4th of July fireworks, the last full weekend of July's Blueberry Festival, late August's Blues Music Festival and mid-September's Harvest Moon Festival. The Dorothy Molter Museum, International Wolf Center, North America Bear Center, Ely-Winton History Musuem, and Soudan Mine are some of the "must see" local attractions.

Clubhouse Lake Campground

Description: Located in north central Minnesota, 30 miles north of Grand Rapids. Campground is located east of the town of Marcell, adjacent to Clubhouse Lake, in an area of large pine trees, and virgin red and white pine. A popular activity is Kid's Fishing Day the second Saturday in June, sponsored by the Big Fork Lion's Club and the Forest Service. Firewood is available at the campground when the host is present. South Kawishiwi River Campground

Description: South Kawishiwi River Campground is located in the Kawishiwi Ranger District of the Superior National Forest approximately 10 miles outside of Ely in northern Minnesota and near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying fishing and other recreational activities. The campground features 31 shaded campsites (each with a picnic table, fire grate, and tent pad), boat landing, swimming beach, picnic area, and nature trail. There are vault toilets, and a hand pump as well as an electric pump is available for drinking water. An enclosed log pavilion is available for summer rentals for events such as weddings and family reunions. Some campsites may be reserved, while others are for drop in campers only. The Kawishiwi River provides access to Birch Lake to the south and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the north. Firewood is available for purchase and with at least one day's notice canoes can be rented for $20 per day. South Kawishiwi River Campground is a National Forest Campground operated by the Ely Area Campground Concessionaires. The operating season starts May 5 and concludes September 30. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying fishing and other recreational activities. The campground features 29 shaded campsites (each with a picnic table, fire grate, and tent pad), a boat landing, vault toilets and a hand pump for drinking water. Some campsites may be reserved, while others are for drop-in campers only. Birch Lake can accommodate large boats and has a MNDNR public water access ramp to facilitate launching. Birch Lake has no horsepower limitations in effect. Firewood is available for purchase, and with at least one day's notice, canoes can be rented for $20 per day. Birch Lake Campground is a National Forest Campground operated by the Ely Area Campground Concessionaires. This campground may be open through October, depending upon weather.
