Washita Battlefield National Historic Site - Lightscape / Night SkyThough sometimes a bane to urban culture lovers, the extremely rural location of Washita Battlefield plays into the favor of very clear night skies. The county that contains the park has the third lowest population in the state, and that population is dropping. Those people that remain are predominantly involved with agriculture of one sort or another. There is no large industry or big cities to be found. Thus, compared to the east or urban centers of the west, the night skies above the park are filled with stars readily visible to the naked eye. Barring any large-scale development in the area, that should remain the case for the foreseeable future. |
