Washita Battlefield National Historic Site - Soundscape / NoiseBesides the distant sound of a tractor plowing the dirt or the occasional passing of a farm truck, visitors to Washita Battlefield are largely free from unnatural sound intrusions. The one exception may be when a small plane comes in to land on the runway of the nearby, seldom used non-commercial airport. Of course, if activity at this airport ever increased substantially the park could experience some noise problems. And if visitation keeps increasing as is expected there will be a concomitant, though mostly unavoidable, increase in vehicle traffic. But thanks to its remoteness Washita will hopefully be spared from significant noise intrusions for the foreseeable future. |
